About Manage Languages

Use the Manage Languages tool to customize Learning Environment to suit the specific language needs of your organization.

The Manage Languages tool enables you to:

Changes to language packs only apply to the organization you made them in. Therefore, you can maintain separate language changes (branding) for multiple organizations on the same instance. All of your changes are maintained between upgrades.

Important  Desire2Learn strives to continuously improve the quality of Learning Environment through new tools and tool enhancements. As a result, language terms are created, removed, and deprecated with any given release. Maintenance of language packs is an ongoing process.

Smart Terms

Important  As of Learning Environment 9.0, Smart Terms are no longer used to standardize language. Smart Terms were used inconsistently and this made it difficult to ensure translations, spelling, and grammar were correct in custom language packs.

If you modified a smart term value in any of your language packs, you need to run a search and replace in that language pack to ensure all of the terms that used to reference the smart term use your custom language. We do not override any of your language term changes; however, since you may not have customized the language terms that used to reference the smart term (because you previously only needed to update the smart term to make a change), these terms may be incorrect.

For example, if your organization uses the terminology "test" instead of "quiz" and you previously modified the smart term "SmartTerm.Tools.txtQuizzes" from "Quizzes" to "Tests," you should perform a search for the word "quiz" and change any applicable results.
